Presently, there are more than thirty university exchange and foreign study programs in Paris in English and a handful in the rest of France.
Additionally, there are a number of English-language universities based in or with campuses in Paris, the largest and most complete being The American University of Paris with over 600 students each semester.
Note that a number of American programs have closed their Paris programs in 1993 due to drops in enrollment. The famous hub of university exchange programs, Reid Hall, has lost a good amount of its tenants. The Dean of The American University of Paris, William Cipolla, has reported that this drop of enrolment in Paris reflects a trend in American education and culture in general away from interest in European study. More exchange students are going to Africa and Asia, notably Vietnam, to study French, a phenomenon rooted to an increased focus in US life on multiculturalism.
