We are an English family wanting to move to France and would like to know how we can go about really finding out about educating ou 7, 6 and 3 yr old children. Incidentally none of us speak French at the moment. I really would appreciate some guidence in the right direction. Can you recommend any Web sites etc.
Dear Katie,
Big question! A lot depends on your philosophic bent on education, society, language acquisition, and then of course on your family economics. Not to mention how long you plan on staying in France. Your three year old could start at the local Ecole Maternelle and probably mix in without too many problems. Go talk to the educators at the school closest to where you´ll be living. The six and seven year olds will probably find the language problem to be a major psychological barrier, although they´ll learn faster than you will. There is a healthy variety of bi-lingual schools in the Paris area, and they are both reputable and costly. I am personally familiar with the Ecole Active Bilingue. (For more information, visit our Studying in France section)
You may wish to begin your research though with a relocation company; they handle these questions daily and are equipped with the best suited solutions for each family. This may save you a lot of time and a bundle of headaches. We send a lot of FrancoFile members to Cosmopolitan Services Unlimited (See Housing in France). DA
