The Belleville District
Creative Loitering in Paris

by David Applefield

Tends to be expensive, high class, conservative and residential. Also houses most of the government ministries including the Assemblée Nationale and the Quai d´Orsay (Foreign Ministry). Not very lively at night, although very pleasant and pretty. The street behind Les Invalides, the avenue de Tourville, is the most expensive property in the French version of Monopoly. The Esplanade des Invalides offers sprawling lawns that are not off-limits for frisbee-playing and picnicking. The market on the rue Cler is particularly pleasant and filled with high quality shops.
