Les marchés: Organic Markets

by David Applefield

These are the equivalent of old-fashioned country farmer´s markets. From thirty to fifty independent organic farmers set up stalls on the weekends in Boulogne and Joinville (Parisian suburbs easily reachable by RER). They sell organically grown fruits and vegetables; homemade breads; dried fruits and nuts; charcuterie; farm-raised chicken, ducks and geese; and natural wine. There are stands selling things like freshly made pizzas, whole-wheat breads, apple or pear cider, a huge variety of artisanal goat cheeses, sausages, beer, and dried flowers. Go early in the day for a good selection.
