Connecting my Laptop
Hello, I will be vacationing in Paris and Avignon, my first trip. I want to bring my laptop and connect in my hotel room to keep in touch with my family. What would I need besides the voltage controller, phone adapter and outlet adapter? I use AOL and also have access numbers for France. Can you help me? Have I forgotten anything? Thank you. S.E.
Thanks S.E. for your question. I think you have it covered. Make sure that your "voltage controller" is a transformer that allows you to plug 110 current appliances into our 220 system. Your laptop may already have a transformer built in. Check, and then check again. Nothing worse than that burning smell coming out of your computer. I´ve been there. Connecting from hotel rooms can sometimes be tricky due to the need to dial 0 or 9 to get an outside line. Don´t forget that when you configure your local access number. As a backup system, I always tell friends and family to cc my Hotmail or Yahoo accounts as well. If you have a problem getting connected from your hotel, you can always find a way to get online elsewhere and pull down your mail via Hotmail or Yahoo.
Bon voyage, David Applefield, Editor
PS: You´re in France, don´t spend too much time behind your screen!
