Question
Do you know where I might find some historical information about the Balajo Club near the Bastille on the rue de Lappe?

Answer
As you know, but maybe many other FF Member don´t, Le Balajo, literally ´Joe´s Ball´ if you want the English translation, is a fantastic old ballroom from the turn of the century. One of the few places that still caters and creates events for an older clientele in the afternoon and a younger crowd for Salsa every Thursday from 10 p.m. till sunrise. You can feel the ghost of Edith Piaf moving between the dances. Yes, it has been said that the French underground, and a host of other groups, social and political, have frequented this landmark. Actually, the entire street, narrow and cobblestoned, has been used for balls since the Belle Epoque.

And before the Second World War, party-lovers in festive garb used the street to dance and sing.
